Redskins 24, Steelers 13
OK, obviously, this was one of those games that I both love and hate to watch; everyone who's been around here for a while know that my loyalties are divided about as evenly as you can get between the two teams. That being said, it was a pre-season game, so as long as everyone got out (relatively) unhurt, I was OK with however the game turned out. Plus, I actually got to, y'know, watch it, which is an unfortunate rarity for me and Redskins games. ;-)
That being said...
Up sides. The 'Skins did a great job of forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them: 14 of our 24 points came off of turnovers. Rex proved himself a capable backup, going 10 of 16 for 133 with 1 TD and 1 INT (QBR 83.6). Pittsburgh was held to under 100 rushing yards and Roethlisberger was sacked 4 times. Kerrigan was a monster, with one sack, one forced fumble, and of course the pick-6 in the first quarter. The end-zone catch by Hankerson was goooorgeous, especially given that he had to reach for it.
Down sides. 3 turnovers, although luckily none of them turned into points. 2-for-9 on third downs. Lost the time of possession battle pretty handily (almost 36-24). Alfred Morris was almost a non-factor, with only 12 yards on 4 carries. INJURIES, though thankfully none of them seemed to be serious.
So: good work by the defense (although admittedly helped by a sloppy Steelers offense), but the offense still needs a little work. Still, a solid win, especially given that it's pre-season and we're still testing personnel.
Up next: The Redskins (2-0) get an extremely short week before welcoming Buffalo (2-0) to FedEx Field on Saturday.
